Disturbed Order - An Insight into the Autistic Brain

The artwork "Disturbed Order" by Katrin Schilke, presented as part of the exhibition "Tondo", offers a profound and at the same time disturbing interpretation of the human mind, especially the autistic brain. Measuring 50cm in diameter, this work captures the complexity and inner struggle of the mind and invites viewers to reflect on the nature of human thought.

At the center of the work is a stylized brain consisting of various drawers and boxes. These symbolize the way memories and experiences are organized and processed in an autistic brain. Each drawer and box represents a specific memory or thought that has been neatly filed away, but also represents the limits and challenges of mental order. The brain with the rooms was constructed by the artist on the computer and precisely engraved and cut out with a laser. This meticulous work shows how the structure and organization of the brain can be artistically implemented and interpreted in new ways.

A particularly impressive element of the artwork are the flying books, which appear as dark, almost eerie creatures with wings. These books float on hand-turned spirals and symbolize the bad thoughts that break away from the ordered system and move freely through space. Their movement is chaotic and unpredictable, which highlights the challenge of dealing with unwanted thoughts that do not want to fit into the ordered structure.

The brain in this work represents an autistic brain and highlights in an artistic way the differences and the special way of perception and thought processing. Through the play of order and chaos, of memories and negative thoughts, the artist manages to create a world that subtly illustrates the struggles and beauty of autistic thinking.

"Disturbed Order" is more than just a work of art; it is an invitation to deepen and broaden one's understanding of the complexity of the human mind. It challenges viewers to not only see the surface of things, but also to explore the depth and different layers of the mental world. Schilke's work leaves a lasting impression and reminds us how diverse and fascinating human thought can be.
